Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS) Certification

Becoming a Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor involves meeting eligibility requirements and completing a structured certification process designed to prepare individuals to support others on their recovery journey.

Eligibility

Applicants must have lived experience in recovery from a serious mental illness, or a substance use disorder. For those with co-occurring conditions, recovery from both is required to qualify.

Training

Approved training is required before applying for certification. The NCCPSS Program currently offers two tracks (Track A and Track B) Track B will remain the sole active option once all approved courses under Track A expire in December 2029.

Exam

The certification exam covers core areas such as recovery principles, ethics, communication, cultural humility, trauma-informed practices, documentation basics, and professional roles and boundaries.

Certification

A PSS certification is valid for two years. Specialists must renew by their deadline to maintain active status.

Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor use their own recovery experience to provide hope, practical tools, and peer-based support. They walk alongside individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges, offering encouragement, helping them navigate services, and modeling recovery while maintaining professional boundaries.
