Suicide Prevention Coalition Coordinator -AATSPC
Position Description Summary

The Suicide Prevention Coalition Coordinator AATSPC (Alamo Area Teen Suicide Prevention Coalition) provides day-to-day coordination and community leadership for AATSPC. The position convenes coalition activities; develops cross-sector partnerships; coordinates suicide prevention training, education, outreach, and resources; advances safe, trauma-informed messaging; supports youth and young adult engagement; and strengthens coalition capacity, leadership continuity, strategic planning, documentation, communications, and funding sustainability.

Core Duties
  • Plan and coordinate coalition, executive committee, stakeholder, advisory, onboarding, and special meetings, including agendas, speakers, logistics, materials, communications, follow-up, and member engagement.
  • Support strategic planning, workgroups, leadership development, recruitment, succession planning, sustainability, and funding discussions.
  • Use surveys, focus groups, stakeholder feedback, and other engagement methods to increase participation in coalition priorities and implementation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, higher education, behavioral health and healthcare providers, youth-serving organizations, public health, law enforcement, faith communities, businesses, civic groups, coalitions, caregivers, and other partners.
  • Represent AATSPC in local, regional, and statewide collaboratives, committees, conferences, workgroups, and partner meetings; identify opportunities for joint programming, referrals, training, presentations, internships, and shared resources.
  • Coordinate and promote evidence-informed suicide prevention and mental health trainings, including QPR, CALM, AS+K, Mental Health First Aid, Project YES, and other appropriate resources.
  • Recruit trainers and presenters; coordinate logistics, materials, participant communications, follow-up, and train-the-trainer opportunities.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to schools, colleges, organizations, and partners regarding prevention, postvention, safe response, and training needs; track training reach and follow-up.
  • Promote trauma-informed, stigma-reducing, safe suicide prevention messaging across campaigns, presentations, outreach, and partner communications.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute web-based and print resources related to suicide prevention, mental health, 988, firearm safety, wellness, and community supports.
  • Coordinate resource fairs, awareness activities, conferences, panels, walks, presentations, and other public-facing prevention events; strengthen coalition communications, marketing, and digital content.
  • Facilitate meaningful youth and young adult participation in coalition planning, leadership, advocacy, workgroups, presentations, campaigns, and community events, including appropriate opportunities for individuals with lived experience.
  • Support student ambassadors, student organizations, Active Minds efforts, campus partners, mentoring, training, supplies, event logistics, and grant-funded stipends when allowable.
  • Assist partners and communities responding to suicide deaths by coordinating postvention consultation, education, resources, and appropriate prevention follow-up.
  • Tailor community conversations and training for audiences affected by suicide loss, trauma, or elevated needs and connect partners with relevant data, best practices, and supports.
  • Contribute to strategic and sustainability planning, funding development, proposals, presentations, conference submissions, and grant/program deliverables.
  • Track coalition participation, trainings, partnerships, outreach, communications, workgroup progress, outcomes, accomplishments, and follow-up needs for reporting, continuous improvement, and funding applications.
  • Maintain coalition operating tools, membership materials, procedures, contact systems, and other infrastructure; coordinate allowable grant-supported capacity-building activities in accordance with approved budgets and SACADA procedures.
  • Coordinate with academic partners on interns and service-learning opportunities, including onboarding, work planning, education, and assigned project support.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, community health, education, nonprofit management, or related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience in coalition coordination, prevention programming, behavioral health, public health, youth services, or community engagement; knowledge of suicide prevention, safe messaging, trauma-informed practice, and postvention strongly preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, organization, follow-up, relationship-building, and technology skills; experience coordinating trainings, meetings, events, presentations, multi-agency partnerships, and activity/outcome tracking.
  • Ability to work with diverse youth, families, schools, higher education, public agencies, and community organizations; attend occasional evening/weekend events and travel locally as needed.
Additional Requirements
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally for coalition and community activities.
  • Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings, events, and training.
  • Ability to travel out of town for required conferences, meetings, and professional development.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete annual training requirements throughout employment.

Local travel is required weekly, about 15-25% of the time (mileage reimbursed). Out of town travel, 10-20% for conferences or occasional meetings within state.
