Description

San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) is the support agency for the Alamo Area Teen Suicide Prevention Coalition.  The University Health System (UHS) Community Initiatives and Population Health Department has been awarded a CDC suicide prevention grant - CoSPLAY.  SACADA has partnered with UHS to manage the Youth Coordinator position.  This position will support the work of both the AATSPC and the CoSPLAY program. The Youth Coordinator builds and maintains a coalition of youth, people and organizations committed to youth well-being through education, advocacy, and support.

Duties
  • The Youth Coordinator will support CoSPLAY and AATSPC with outreach, education and navigation to community resources to youth population.
  • Learn and thoroughly understand the philosophy of SACADA, its programs, services and resources available for children and families.
  • Coordinating youth training and advisory board meetings, and help CoSPLAY reach population of focus/disproportionally affected populations (DAPs)
  • Coordinate training, education, support, and resources on mental health and suicide prevention for DAPs
  • Support youth activities which promote youth in creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Bexar County.
  • Attend and actively participate in CDC meetings on communication/ messaging as requested by CoSPLAY Program.
  • Serve as a liaison between the suicide coalition and the community.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly CoSPLAY Advisory and Communication workgroup meetings, either in-person or remotely via video/audio conferencing technology, reporting on progress of safe messaging campaign and youth outreach.
  • Assist CoSPLAY in developing an inventory of suicide care/prevention programs and gaps in care for our jurisdiction (Bexar County), and keep inventory up-to-date
  • Work closely with CoSPLAY’s Communication Specialist on dissemination of relevant information/data for youth and their families; and following safe messaging guidelines.
  • Inform organizations about the AATSP coalition and CoSPLAY’s efforts and promote efforts.
  • Facilitate focus groups/meetings with youth to assist with public health approach to safe messaging, implementation, and continuous quality improvement in partnership with University Health.
  • Demonstrate adherence to the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in the Health and Health Care (The National CLAS Standards, 2013) for the proposed target population and demonstrate good-faith efforts to reach out to underserved populations.
  • Prepare and complete accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports by deadline while following organization and funding requirements.
  • Submit detailed monthly reports to UHS and SACADA with the activities developed broken down by:
    • Number of trainings and participants, information on the participants, surveys to evaluate knowledge
    • Progress on the inventory of suicide care programs
    • Number of focus groups help (#partcipants) and analysis of the outcomes.
    • Number of participants reach with the program and the resources offered.
  • Employees will be expected to attend online meetings, trainings and to be on time and to be professionally dressed and groomed for all online sessions.
Education/Work Experience/Skills Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in the field of psychology, education, social and/or human services, or public health preferred.
  • Knowledge in Substance Use Prevention
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work at outdoor events
  • Excellent Oral and Written Skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and online platforms.
Required Trainings
  • Attend Orientation/ On Boarding Training
  • Attend Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Training within 60 days of employment or have valid certification upon hire.
  • Complete 15-Hour Prevention Skills Training (PST) within six (6) months from date of hire (one-time required training).
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) Preferred or Associate Prevention Specialist (APS) to be completed within 20 months of employment.
  • Complete Cultural Competence, Suicide Prevention, Trauma Informed Care and Prevention related Ethics annually.
  • Attend at least one Youth or Adult Mental Health First Aid Training.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and carry up to 30 lbs..
